In April 2009, John Mayotte was named General Manager of Merritt Athletic Clubs Bare Hills, where he oversees both the fitness and tennis departments. Mayotte...if the name sounds familiar, it's because John comes from a tennis family at the forefront of the sport for decades.

When John took the job as General Manager of Merritt Athletic Clubs Bare Hills, he hit the ground running. Immediately, he made staff and program changes, luring Greensprings' top tennis program to Bare Hills. After more than 30 years at Green Spring Racquet Club, Lenny Scheuermann and Thiha Htwar moved The Tennis Institute to Bare Hills.

Lenny Sheuermann, named Baltimore's Best Teaching Professional by Baltimore Magazine, and Thiha Htwar bring their goal-setting "you can do it" method to Bare Hills. The year-round Tennis Institute continues into the fall and winter with classes and workshops for everyone from children to adults, beginners to advanced players.

In addition, Lenny and Thiha and their staff of teaching pros - Matt Lennox, Kristin Messmer, Jason Goldman-Petri, and Deepak Lall - offer private lessons to children and adults of all levels of play.

Bare Hills Squash Tournaments
Merritt Spring Tournament Tournament will follow US Squash junior tournament policies, and seeding will be randomized like the new US Squash format. Eye guards and correct squash attire required. Players are required to be available from 4:00PM on March 19 through March 21. There will be no match time change accommodation. Start times will be available March 16 at www.ussquash.com or via the tournament e-mail. All entry forms and payments must be received by March 12. Please make checks payable to Merritt Athletic Clubs at Bare Hills (no refunds after closing date). Metabolic Mayhem Training at Merritt Athletic Clubs Bare Hills
Who said getting in great physical shape takes 60 minutes a day? When it comes to exercise, a majority of people have no specific goals other than to improve their current fitness level. Fat loss, muscle gain, a faster 40 yard dash is not a high priority for most people. And that's where Metabolic Mayhem Training comes in. Metabolic (metabolism) is the systematic way we take energy (food) and use it either for energy prodution (running, for example) or storage (body fat). Mayhem is creating havoc or a disturbance. In Metabolic Mayhem Training, we will put you through an intense 30-minute whole body circuit that will lead to an elevated level of energy production and less energy storage throughout the day. We will have you training much harder than you probably have ever trained, allowing your body to reap all the benefits of improving your current fitness level in half the time of a typical training session.

Weekly training packages available consisting of two-to-three 30-minute sessions valued at $35 each.

Merritt Bare Hills Sports Performance Training (SPT)
Adult Fitness with Sports Performance Training is a blend of general fitness and performance training. The workouts are on a periodized schedule and are adaptable to varying fitness levels. Whether you are an avid fitness enthusiast or just getting into working out, you can enjoy a workout with us. The training session is lead by a certified and experienced coach from start to finish. This ensures that proper form is being performed at all times and that there is organization to your workouts.

During a workout you may use harness, agility ladders, or hurdles. This is certainly not your average treadmill workout! Small group training allows for quality reps and attention from the coach while keeping the price down. Classes are for ages 18 and older. Member pricing $120 per month for unlimited classes.

Bare Hills Sports Performance Training for Student Athletes
Sports Performance Training is scientifically designed to help athletes become faster and more explosive. No matter the level, every athlete has areas that he or she can improve upon. This program is progressive and periodized to help athletes make continuous improvements in speed, agility, and overall athleticism. Each training session is lead by a certified and degreed coach from start to finish. The sessions are in a group (semi-private) setting which allows each athlete to get individual feedback from a coach. There are two different types of training offered: movement and strength. Each session is 60 minutes long and is planned out so there should not be repeating training sessions.

Ages 8-11 Monday-Friday from 4:00PM-5:00PM
Ages 12-14 and 15-18 60-Minute Class Schedule Monday - Friday:
Movement Classes 4:00PM-5:00PM and 6:00PM-7:00PM
Strength Classes 5:00PM-6:00PM and 7:00PM-8:00PM
Saturdays: Movement Class 10:30AM-11:30AM, Strength Class 11:30AM-12:30PM

CrossFit at Merritt Bare Hills
CrossFit - high intensity functional training. This is a core strength and conditioning program developed to optimize cardiovascular endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy.

CrossFit is designed for any committed individual, regardless of experience and current fitness level. A new workout is experienced every day and can be scaled to specific fitness levels of participants. We train everyone from beginners to serious athletes. Classes held in small groups and are always challenging and fun. Member pricing: $200 per month for unlimited sessions, $160 per month for twice a week (8 sessions per month).

Merritt Marlin Masters Swim Team Merritt Marlin Masters is a team of swimmers who love swimming. Our team is comprised of about 100 men and women ranging in age from 18-80 from several different Merritt Athletic Clubs locations. Ability levels include beginners, lap swimmers, triathletes, and former high school and college stand-outs. We are athletes at heart who not only love the sport and competing, but also cherish the friendships made on the team. Merritt Masters is a sanctioned team under the Maryland Masters Swimming Association and is part of the national organization United States Masters Swimming.

We pride ourselves in providing expert coaching for all of our skill levels. Our practices are broken down by skill level into four lanes, and each lane has appropriate coaching. Immediate and consistent feedback is provided to make you a better swimmer. we can help you reach your swimming goal, whether that means learning a new stroke, preparing for a swim meet, or breaking a National USMS record. Pre-Swim Team Not ready for swim team yet? Can't commit to more than one day a week? Looking to get ready for the summer swim season? Try our Pre-Team groups! Eight-week sessions focus on the stroke form of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Flip turns and starts are also taught during training. For ages 6 and up. Merritt Athletic Swimming/Year Round Swim Team Practice available 6 days a week. Merritt Athletic Swimming is a year round swim team that has grown to two practice locations - Towson and Eldersburg. The locations combine with over 100 swimmers ages 5-18. This is a competitive swim team program that is year round and offers five competitive levels in which to compete.
