Let’s kick off the new year with a strong mind and body by taking ownership of your time, food, and movement!
1. Stay Hydrated
Keep filtered water with you at all times to sip on throughout the day. Add some fresh lemon or lime for added flavor and vitamin C. Staying hydrated will help prevent extra cravings and hunger.
2. Keep yourself active
Your days may be busier than ever, but find ways to stay active by squeezing in a workout before or after work! Walk during your lunch break or park a little further from the store while doing your weekly shopping! Take the stairs and avoid the elevators when you can. Be fun and creative if necessary – dance party with your kids when the stress hits high!
3. Don’t go hungry
Storing healthy snacks in your car or desk can prevent times of binge eating while you are on the go. Nuts, fruit, protein bars (make sure they aren’t packed with sugar and artificial ingredients!), or beef sticks are excellent sources of protein to keep you satiated.
4. Enjoy your meals
Rushed eating can lead to digestive issues and overeating. Every time you sit down to a meal, ask yourself, do I really want/like this food? If the answer is yes, savor each bite by eating slowly and truly enjoying your meal.
5. Rest Up
One of the worst offenders to our metabolism is not getting enough sleep. Being over tired will make you eat more by requiring all the energy that extra calories will bring. Take ownership of your schedule and be intentional with going to bed on time every night or taking a necessary nap when possible!
6. Dry January or not
If you are going to consume alcohol, choose drinks without all the added sugars, juices or flavorings. Be sure to drink plenty of water before and after consuming alcohol to stay hydrated. If going dry for January, make a fun cocktail with sparkling water and freshly squeezed fruit and mint!
7. Be Strong
Focus on eating healthy proteins such as eggs, beef and chicken and all the fruits and veggies this winter. Remember to eat the rainbow and add things like citrus fruits, garlic, onion, ginger and turmeric to your daily intake to boost your immune system!
