We’ve all heard or maybe have tried the grapefruit diet. I know I have, back in the day. But first, let me just clarify my belief, “Diets don’t work!!” It’s a lifestyle change that will succeed for the long haul. Eating a well balanced nutritional intake of healthy foods is the key. (Go to ChooseMyPlate.gov) One the healthy food I’m referring to is “Grapefruit”. After reading about what this fruit can do, you will understand why I place it in the category of Super Fruit!!
According to an article (Health Magazine) I read, grapefruit really does curve hunger plus many more benefits. Continue reading to find the other benefits. Check this out, according to Health magazine, oatmeal isn’t the only heart-friendly breakfast food.
1. Helps Protect Your Heart – Eating one grapefruit a day can help lower “bad” LDL cholesterol levels by 15.5% and triglycerides by 27%, according to a study in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. If you’re going to eat grapefruit, make sure that it’s the deep red ones which has the highest level of antioxidants. But beware of them if you’re on any prescription drugs for they can increase the potency of the drug. Check with your doctor first.
2. It Smoothes the Skin – Use this citrus star to rid dark patches on your knees and elbows. Grapefruit is packed with Vitamin C (a mild acid), which help fade spots by reducing the excess production of pigment. How to use it – cut one in half, sprinkle on a teaspoon of sugar (a mild exfoliant) rub over your skin. Warning: Void the face – could irritate a sensitive complexion.
3. It Boosts Your Metabolism – A study from the Nutrition and Metabolic Research Center claims eating more of this citrus fruit can help you lose pounds: People who ate a half grapefruit before each meal (without making any other dietary changes) shed an average of 3-1/2 pounds over 12 weeks. They continue to say that the fruit’s compound aid in fat burning and stabilizing blood-sugar and insulin levels. Natural hunger buster? Absolutely!
4. It’s a Green Cleaner – With all the toxins and chemicals that have plagued the environment, this super fruit helps us in this area. If you juice this fruit, use the extra pulp and rind to spruce up your bathroom. Dip the juiced half in a plate of sea salt, and then rub it all over your bathroom fixtures, squeezing any leftover out as you go. The citric acid in the fruit dissolves dirt and grime, the salt disinfests and scours. After scrubbing, rinse. Fresh, clean and NO chemicals.!!!
