Live with More Romance: Healthy Valentine’s Day Ideas for Couples

Valentine’s Day is coming up, so it’s time to focus on the special bond that you and your partner share. When most people think about Valentine’s Day, they probably think of candlelit dinners at a restaurant and boxes of chocolate. Enjoying these treats in moderation is great, but know that there are other, healthier ways to spend the holiday season. For couples looking to up the romance and keep their health maintained at the same time, let’s discuss a few healthy activities for two.

Cook a Healthy Meal Together

To get into the Valentine’s spirit, try cooking a healthy dinner with your significant other. There is nothing quite like a romantic dinner for two at home. By collaborating in the kitchen with your partner, you’ll be strengthening your bond. Before you start cooking, you can shop together at a local farmer’s market so that you’re sure all of the ingredients that you’re using are farm fresh.

You might even choose for the dinner to be ‘love themed.’ Add a pop of red into each dish you serve, in honor of the season. You can serve something like a kale salad garnished with pomegranates. Then, for the main course, serve a chicken breast with a side of sweet potatoes and tasty stewed tomatoes.

Be Each Other’s Training Partner

Working out with someone else is more engaging, and, just as importantly, you’re more likely to get in a good session when training with someone else. Head over to the gym with your partner and be each other’s training partner. It is good for the health—and the romance—of you both. Plus, you’ll be able to see each other’s progress if you continue training together for weeks and months to come.

Get a Couples’ Massage

Another healthy, and certainly romantic, idea for couples looking to connect more deeply this season is going to get a couples’ massage together. Oftentimes, there are Valentine’s Day-themed couples’ massages offered during the month of February, so take advantage of the holiday. You’ll feel less stressed after a massage which is beneficial for your health.

Take a Walk Together

Staying healthy requires you to move, move, move. After dinner, during the mid-day, or whenever you have time, take a stroll with your partner. You can simply walk around your neighborhood, or you can go to a destination to walk with a scenic view. Going on a couples’ walk is the perfect opportunity to check-in with your significant other. Talk about how your day is going and the plans you have for the future.

Go to the ‘Bar’

Instead of spending a night out at a traditional bar, create an at-home non-alcoholic tea ‘bar.’ Brew some of your favorite teas and have healthy garnishes for the tea, like mint and honey. You and your partner can create a unique tea ‘cocktail’ and drink it together. You might choose to talk over tea or you might choose to watch a romantic movie over tea. Being mindful of your alcohol consumption together is good for your health.

Have an Outdoors Journaling Session

Maintaining your mental health is crucial for couples looking to be healthy together. Journaling is proven to improve your mental health, so you and your significant other could go outside for 30 minutes to journal. When you sit outside and allocate some time toward writing down your thoughts, feelings, and goals, you’ll end up more mindful and connected to your partner. Taking some time to slow down is always beneficial. We live in a busy world, so enjoy some time taking things slow with the person you love.

Have a Health Check-In

Keeping your health maintained can be a cumbersome process at times. Depending on your gender, age, and health status, you might have to keep up with many different appointments, like yearly trips to the gynecologist, eye doctor’s visits, annual bloodwork, dermatologist appointments, and more. Make it a tradition to have frequent conversations with your partner about their health.

During these conversations, ensure they are doing what they need to do to stay healthy. Ensure that they have doctor’s appointments scheduled, that they’re eating in a balanced way, that they’re exercising regularly, and that they’re sleeping. If there are issues in any aspect of your partner’s health routine, make a plan to remedy these issues together. It’s easier to make changes when you have the support of your partner.

February Is Here: Get Healthy and Get Ready for Romance
