You have likely been inundated with the latest breakthrough in the fitness industry—HYROX! Your Merritt Clubs team is an official HYROX Training club, and we want to make sure you know everything important about HYROX and what you can do to take part.
HYROX by name came about in 2017 from founders Christian Toetzke and Moritz FĂĽrste, looking to create a way to still find competition in fitness through their midlife. The Concept of the Fitness race was to incorporate functionally safe and mechanically enduring stations, amongst the 8km of running. Originally named CuRox, this was later named HyRox after a legal battle and following settlement.
The HYROX fitness race has since been labeled the “World Series of Fitness Racing” being a globally recognized sport and reaches hundreds of thousands annually. The race consists of Eight 1km runs followed by a series of individual stations.

This race is meant to not only challenge your strength, but your stamina as well. Having an average of 18,000 throughout the race can be consuming for those who are stepping into the world of HYROX for the first time. As an affiliate to HYROX, Merritt Clubs offers the simulations of the race. A welcoming and introductory way to experience the depth of the HYROX race and to test your race readiness. Before you drop $200 on a ticket, think about this in your race day prep.
As a local affiliate, our simulations can directly reflect the race day atmosphere and Rox zone map. With a full court designated for the series of stations, wrapped by our full indoor track, you can simulate the feel of running laps and transitioning through the stations. Our simulations reflect the race feel, without the extreme race day traffic. Simulations give a limited participation to those looking for the closest experience to the sanctioned race.
With varying formats of simulations, testing singles, doubles, relays, and even half simulations, it becomes accessible to those in our system without question of measuring independently. Our team creates a high energy, inclusive environment to get you ready for your next race day.
At Merritt Clubs, we provide all levels of the HYROX experience to get you confident for your next event. Whether the half simulation, or comprehensive training, our team is ready to elevate your lifestyle. Visit our HYROX page for more information about the program and to see our upcoming simulations.
Mike Bentivenga is a HYROX coach and the Fitness Director at Merritt Clubs Downtown.
