Why You Need to Try a Group Fitness Class

Why You Need to Try a Group Fitness Class

IMG_3694.jpgThink group exercise classes are just loud music, fast movements, and mob-mentality? Think again. Group fitness offers social opportunities, mental health benefits, and psychological support. Safe and effective workouts in a fun and social environment, consistent scheduling, instructor motivation, education, and accountability are just some of the benefits of group exercise. Better yet, most group workouts require no prior exercise knowledge or experience.

Research shows people are more successful at reaching their fitness goals with group support. They also have fewer major health problems overall. Psychologically, exercising in a group setting also leads to a greater sense of well-being, better self-esteem, improved body image, and less depression. A small study published in the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association (November 2017) found that people who took group exercise classes reported less stress and more physical, emotional, and mental health benefits than those who exercised alone or even skipped going to the gym.

Working out in a group will give you the confidence and support you need to unleash yourself – enjoy your experience! Group exercise suits all fitness levels, no matter how fit you are. You’ll gain strength from exercising with others and you’ll motivate each other to work harder, and push yourself just a little more.

There’s no better time to try group fitness at Merritt Clubs than right now. Beginning this weekend, we will be featuring new choreography and music for our Les Mills formats (BODYPUMP, BODYCOMBAT, SPRINT, etc). Many of these classes will be about 30 minutes in length, to give everyone a taste of the new releases. Try one, or try them all! This is the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in our group exercise program without making a huge commitment. Check MotionVibe for the schedule at your club.
