Diary of a Fitness Newbie: I’m Bringing Sexy Back

progress_blog_01.jpgHello all! My name is Leslie and I am starting a blog! This blog, in fact. Until recently, my fitness experience consisted of hearing that it’s something that’s important. And, if I’m being honest, I’ve never really cared that much about being fit. I have never had a gym membership that cost me more than $10 a month, and I don’t know if I ever would have thought anything more than that would be necessary. I always thought going to the gym was horrible anyway and would cut into my sitting-in-front-of-the-TV-eating-Cheetos time.

But. I recently got hired by Merritt Clubs and work at the Home Office in Woodlawn. Suddenly, I have been thrust into a community of beautiful, fit people who have made me feel inadequate for my typical once a week, twenty minutes on the elliptical routine. And, I have been granted the opportunity to try what working out in a real fitness club is like. Maybe working out won’t be as awful now?

I’ve decided this blog is going to be about me trying all the different classes Merritt offers and finding out if I might enjoy working out in a fancy pants club. I have only ever taken yoga classes and the thought of having to go into a room for an hour with a bunch of ripped fitness junkies scares the crap out of me. What if I can’t keep up or I can’t lift the weights or I tear my adorable new yoga pants at the seam in front of everyone? I have a healthy fear (is it healthy?) of having to work out with other people.

This is where I will start. I guess I’ll give you my goals first. I’m not trying to become super ripped or someone who only drinks protein shakes for all my meals. I am gifted with good genes and can keep my figure easily (hence my typical once a week gym routine.) I really just want to try everything now because Merritt offers so much! See which classes I like and if I can actually do it or not. So…

Goals to achieve: Be able to touch my toes eventually

            Have awesome abs

            Be healthier at life

Find out if I like this whole hard work thing or not

These will be the goals I set for myself and I will document everything here in this blog chronicling one fairly-normal, anxiety-driven girl’s journey to understanding what all of the group fitness classes are and if I am physically capable of doing them without looking like a moron.

My pretentious inspirational quote today: “There are 7 days in a week and ‘Someday’ isn’t one of them.”
