Diary of a Fitness Newbie: The Sweat Drops Down My Legs

Diary of a Fitness Newbie: The Sweat Drops Down My Legs

Hot Yoga.

It’s pretty hot, I gotta say. I have been dying to try this, especially because my regular Yoga instructor, Abir, who teaches at Buckingham, always says your muscles need to be warm to stretch. So I tried Hot Yoga with Cory at Fort Avenue

Well apparently, there is a towel designed for Hot Yoga to put on your mat because you sweat a lot— I didn’t know that and I didn’t have one. It mostly wasn’t a problem until my palms got pretty wet and I was afraid to fall on my face during downward dog. But other than that, I liked it. I do think I was able to deepen my stretches because of the heat, and I think the instructor focused more on strengthening than balancing. I felt like I was earning the sweat I produced from my slippery palms.

As a person in my mid-twenties, I think Fort Avenue is the coolest place. I have to say it’s the most exciting place to workout. If you love Baltimore City and an urban style, you will love it. The Hot Yoga room, for instance, has old brick walls and feels very cozy and hipster (in a good way). I need to take other fitness classes there because the walls in the other rooms have awesome graffiti, which makes me want to redecorate my whole house to match. It’s like I’m working out in a Gatorade commercial and I am the strong, determined athlete.

So overall, Hot Yoga is a good workout. Although I won’t be quitting my regular Yoga classes just yet, I plan to go back. I think the class was more relaxed and the environment helped me get into the Yoga mindset. (See the photo of me here.) Go forth and prosper, fellow Yogis!

Class taken: Hot Yoga with Cory @ Fort Ave

Goals to achieve: Touch toes (almost)

Get killer abs (working on it)

Be healthier (always a work in progress)

See if heat makes me more stretchy (yes!)
