Should You Have A Pre Workout Meal?

bigstock-Sports-Woman-Sitting-And-Eatin-216059431Going to the gym on an empty stomach isn’t for everyone. Though you burn more calories working out without eating first, it is likely that you will not have enough energy to do an intense workout. Eating a small pre-workout meal will give you adequate fuel and nourishment to build the muscle you want. Save the hearty meal for a post-workout because if you eat a full meal beforehand, you will be tired and it will lead to stomach cramps.

WHAT TO EAT BEFORE A WORKOUT

DATES

Dates boost energy, improve digestion, increase iron levels, and improve heart health. You can eat up to three dates before a workout without feeling too full.

BANANA

All cells run off of sugar (glucose). Processed sugar is not the same as fruit sugar. Only fruit can fuel the cells with glucose. Eating a banana before a workout will improve your mood, provide energy, and fill your body with antioxidants. It can even be eaten on the go!

HANDFUL OF NUTS WITH YOGURT

Nuts are full of vitamins and minerals such as calcium, protein, iron, copper, zinc, and vitamin E. They boost immunity, increase metabolism rate, improve brain function, and lower bad cholesterol. Yogurt can add a bit more flavor to the nut mix while providing probiotic benefits.

½ CUP OF OATS

Oatmeal is quick and easy to make while providing a plethora of health benefits. A small amount of oats will give you the right amount of fullness in your stomach. It aids in weight loss, provides selenium, prevents colon cancer and diabetes, and is rich in folic acid, manganese, vitamin B1, iron, and phosphorus.

APPLE

An apple will give you as much energy as a cup of coffee without the caffeine side effects. It boosts good bacteria in the gut, detoxifies the liver, reduces pressure on blood vessels, and helps fight weakness.
